| Ever wondered who that hard to see bass player in the wonderwall video was? Well it was Scott McCloud, the often forgotten bass player who had less than a month with Oasis. Guigsy had "lost the plot" as he said himself and took time off to recouperate from exhaustion. Meanwhile oasis were planning for a forthcoming tour and needed a replacement quickly. Scott McCloud from the Manchester band The Ya Ya's, was brought in and teamed up with the band on September 20 1995. He was shocked to find an army of photographers waiting for him at the train station and asked noel: "is it always like this?" Noel said "No! It's much worse." Following a gig in the Pittsburgh Metropol on October 16, Scott decides he's had enough and leaves the band. Noel "What happened was, we'd done a gig in Pittsburgh and he comes off stage and he went straight to bed on the tourbus when Our Liam was going to bed, which was even more strange Liam going to bed early. Anyway the bus takes off and the tour manager sat on the bus, she had a strange look on her face. And we went: "What's up with you?" "Well I've got some bad news." "Well go on, what's it?" "Well, Scott just said he wants to go home." So we all decided we were going to let him sleep on it and if he'd got up in the morning and changed his mind fair enough. By the time we got up in the morning he was on the plane home. The funny thing is he didn't speak to me personally about it except until I got back from America when we had done the Letterman show. And he phoned up believe it or not, he says: "alright, it's Scott." And I went: "well, what do you want?" And he's actually changed his mind and said: "I think I've made the wrong decision." I said: "well I think you have and good luck with signing on." (18 October, 1995) The press said: Scott McCleod Walks. Lightning has struck twice in the Oasis camp this Autumn. Temporary bass player, Scott McCloud, walked off the Oasis tour yesterday morning, stating he wanted to return to England. He gave no apparent reason for leaving, other than he was unhappy and didn’t feel he fitted in. No amount of persuasion from the band’s tour manager could persuade him to stay. He refused to discuss the matter with any band members. It’s another bitter blow to the already disrupted touring plans of Oasis, which is ironic considering the phenomenal success of their second album (What’s The Story) Morning Glory, certain to go beyond double platinum. The current situation has left the band and touring party stranded in up-state New York. At this present moment the four remaining members are considering the remote possibility of an emergency replacement to fulfill the rest of the US tour and in any event intend to pick up the pieces at the David Letterman Show on Thursday by performing Morning Glory as a four piece, with the ever versatile Bonehead swapping to bass. Oasis apologize to all their US and Canadian fans who may well experience disappointment having purchased tickets to see them on this ill-fated tour. |
