19.04.01: NEW ALBUM INFO!

Oasis has been in the studio to record material which will be included in their fifth studio album. Noel Gallagher said of the songs recorded so far, his brother Liam has written four, while Andy Bell and Gem Archer have each written two: "I was a bit wary at first. So I said play us one of the tunes, and honestly they sound good. They sound like us, so it's cool! It's been going all right in the studio. We're just recording all the songs people have got and at the end we'll mix them and then we'll pick the best songs for the record." Oasis have traditionally used producers on the recording of their album. However, Noel is planning to produce this one himself.

He joked: "It's almost like the apprenticeship has been served. It's no disrespect to the people who produced the records in the past, but I've spent six years sitting behind these guys and thinking 'but all they do is tell the engineer what to do, I could do that!" The album will be out early 2002.

Oasis are rumoured to have given the new album the working title of
Long time Servant Of The Gun. Fanatic fans, who are based in the unofficial newsgroup alt.music.oasis, claim to have discovered the title. Furthermore the tracklisting could include titles like: Revival, Songbird (by Liam), The Roller (by Gem), Who's Lookin', Stand Out Man, Streets Ahead But Miles Behind, Together, Heart On Sleeve and Shout It Out Loud. A source close to the band said the song titles sounded "familiar", but an official spokesperson told NME: "I'm going to pass that album title on to Noel because I believe he's trying to think of one. It is going well in the studio but it's very premature to talk about titles yet."

16.03.01: OASIS TUNE STOLEN!

It's not all good news for Hear'Say - experts are checking claims that the debut hit Pure And Simple was lifted from the Oasis track All Around The World.

< the investigation begins >

Oasis' publishers Sony believe the chorus is very similar and the company will sue if they think Hear'Say's songwriters stole it.
It seems that the two songs have identical chord progression. "If we find they're the same, there will be a royalties claim." a spokesperson from Sony said. Pure And Simple has sold more than 237,000 copies since Monday, making it the fastest-selling single since Elton John's Candle In The Wind.
Oasis are more used to claims that THEY pinched other people's ideas. The band paid Gary Glitter £200,000 in a 1999 out-of-court settlement for using the lyric "Hello, hello, it's good to be back" which was used on Hello. Step Out had to be excluded from the tracklisting on What's The Story (Morning Glory) when Stevie Wonder's lawyers said it was too close to his hit Uptight. Finally Oasis paid the New Seekers £175,000 in 1995 for using bits of I'd Like To Teach The World To Sing on Shakermaker.

04.03.01: OASIS + THE BLACK CROWES!

< The Black Crowes >

The Black Crowes and Oasis have confirmed dates for what is certain to be the definitive rock experience of year 2001. The American tour that unites two bands who exemplify the best of American and British rock! The Tour Of Brotherly Love kicks off May 11th in Las Vegas. The 17 shows will feature an opening act to be followed by Oasis, with The Black Crowes closing the show, both bands are expected to perform full sets.

The Black Crowes: "The history, credibility, resilience, talent, passion and music of both bands speak for itself. God help us all."
Oasis: "The idea of these two great bands touring together has excited everyone we speak to. It's the ideal combination for those who take their rock charged with passion, soul and energy."

Over the past decade, The Black Crowes have consistently delivered high-voltage rock & roll soul, cementing their reputation as one of rock's premiere bands, starting with 1990's multi-platinum selling debut Shake Your Money Maker, straight through 1999's By Your Side and 2000's Greatest Hits 1990-1999: A Tribute To A Work In Progress, and on to this past summer's gold-certified, critically acclaimed collaboration, Jimmy Page & The Black Crowes: Live At The Greek. The mix of hard blues, heavy rock and inward-looking, often deeply personal lyrics clearly represent contemporary rock & roll's best: it's a distinctive sound with a sense of abandon, celebratory heat and confrontational attitude. No wonder that the UK's Melody Maker hailed them as "The Most Rock n' Roll Rock n' Roll Band in the World."

Oasis belong to a tradition of acts in the history of music who get to define their generation. To know that right then, at that moment, no one is making music that is more important, that expresses more clearly the hopes and aspirations of the time. From the release of Definitely Maybe in 1994 to the massive concerts at Knebworth in 1996, Oasis were indisputably that act. Since then they've continued to tour the world, remaining to be the indisputable world champions of rock 'n' roll.
