02.04.05 Noel speaks of Don't Believe the Truth! |
"I'm more proud of this one then of any album since 'Definitely Maybe'. We stuck it out, we stuck to our guns and we pulled it off."
With single Lyla being released on May 16, the album following two weeks later on May 30 and a massive tour Noel admitted it felt strange to return to full action with Oasis after Don't Believe The Truth's isolated recording process.
"It's like pulling a huge, big elastic band back," he suggested. "It went all the way back for three years and now we're ready to let go. We're getting back into the swing of things, it's been 'What? We've got to do a video on Friday? Whoa, whoa!"
He added: "Someone said to me my songs sound like B-sides from 1994. I take that as a compliment because the B-sides I wrote then should have been on 'Be Here Now'. That would be an insult to some people but not to me."
Noel's comments track by track:
TURN UP THE SUN: It's that epic it could've and should've been the first 3 tracks on the album!!
LYLA: It's the "Soundtrack of our Lives" doing The Who on Skol in a psychedelic city in the sky (or something!)
MUCKY FINGERS: The result of one too many nights in the dressing room, brainwashing Gem with The Velvet Underground then thinking "Fuck it! Dylan rules!"
LOVE LIKE A BOMB: Songbird's bigger and far more interesting brother. One for the ladies, as Liam says.
THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING IDLE: Having nothing to do is such a massive job that someone had to write a song about it.
THE MEANING OF SOUL: Elvis on Red Bull!!
GUESS GOD THINKS I'M ABEL: Up until two weeks ago, everyone thought the title was "Guess God Thinks I'm Able"!! Now everyone's confused.
PART OF THE QUEUE: Doesn't sound remotely like anything we've ever done before. Legendary Cuban percussionist Lenny Castro shuffles up a storm. Amazing.
KEEP THE DREAM ALIVE: A Song that totally does justice to the title. Will be a live staple for years to come.
A BELL WILL RING: Ringo's favourite. Enough said.
LET THERE BE LOVE: It took 7 years to finish. Worth the wait?? Oh yes!!

22.01.05 Liam comments on new Album... |
Liam Gallagher has revealed that Oasis have completed work on their new as-yet-untitled album and are looking forward to causing agro on their upcoming UK tour, while rumours of a possible album title have surfaced.
Speaking at the UK Radio Aid day (January 17) Gallagher explained that Oasis' album is nearly complete, save the final stages of studio mixing, and as soon as its ready he's intending on causing as much grief as possible.
"We're gonna finish this record off, master it, and go out there and do some gigs." He explained, "And hopefully get up as many people's noses as we can."
"It sounds good, it sounds good man. Very nice. It's sort of done now, we just need to get it mastered and then put it in the cover and away we go."
After performing 'Songbird' with guitarist Gem, Gallagher also donated two items for the Radio Aid auction. Firstly a signed gold disc of the Oasis album 'Be Here Now' ("The best one," Gallagher explained, "And there's still some copies left so go and buy one...") and a signed Fender guitar (which is currently attracting bids of over £4,5000).

Rumours have also started circulating that Oasis' new Dave Sardy-produced album will be entitled 'Don't Believe The Truth', and the first single will be 'I Stand Alone' which should be released in late March.
Either way, Noel Gallagher himself has confirmed that the new record will definitely include tracks 'Guess God Thinks I'm Able', 'Part Of The Queue' and 'The Importance Of Being Idle' and is pencilled in for release on May 16.
Oasis are heading out on a full UK tour later this year and according to Noel have "bagged some magnificent support bands" for the jaunt.

16.02.05 Wonderwall voted 2nd best pop single! |
George Michael’s Careless Whisper is the greatest British pop single of the past 25 years. The former Wham! star’s moving ballad came top in The Sun's poll. Music fans were outraged that Angels was thought the best single and demanded a say. So we drew up a shortlist of singles released since the Brits began — and voting was VERY different. George, 41, got 14 per cent of the votes for his 1984 hit. Oasis came a close second, Noel Gallagher’s 1995 song Wonderwall scoring 12 per cent. Next came Kate Bush’s No. 1 Wuthering Heights with ten per cent of the votes. Poor Robbie trailed in 4th with just nine per cent.
THE SUN'S TOP TEN
1. GEORGE MICHAEL - Careless Whisper
2. OASIS - Wonderwall
3. KATE BUSH - Wuthering Heights
4. ROBBIE WILLIAMS - Angels
5. THE JAM - Going Underground
6. SEX PISTOLS - God Save The Queen
8. QUEEN - We Are The Champions
9. THE STONE ROSES - Fool's Gold
10. UNDERTONES - Teenage Kicks |

07.01.05 Noel Reveals details of new LP! |
Oasis guitarist NOEL GALLAGHER has spoken out about the release of the band's forthcoming studio album.
The as-yet-untitled LP will hit the shops on May 16 and features 12 songs written by Noel, singer Liam guitarist Gem Archer and bassist Andy Bell.
|
|
|
|
He said: "The finished album is my favourite one of the last four. Because we're all contributing to the songwriting there's a different feel to it. In fact the only songs that sound like Oasis are Andy Bell's funnily enough.
"I've been listening to a lot of Bob Dylan last year, Liam was obviously some guy who used to be in a band in Liverpool, Gem's a very rock and roll but not in a Jet way if you know what I mean. Andy's just sound like Oasis, which is great."
The band are currently approving the artwork for the release, which according to Noel "looks quite bleak and northern", but are yet to decide on the first single to be lifted from the LP.
"There was an obvious first single but I was singing it," Noel explained. "After 12 years of Oasis, Liam thought that might sound a bit odd, people might think he'd left the band. He threw his cans out the pram."
Talking to Radio 1, the guitarist gave fans an insight into his favourite tracks on the album and said that his brother's songs are "very, very good".
"If I had to pick one it would be 'The Importance of Being Idle'," he revealed. "That sounds a bit like The Kinks, a bit like The La's, a bit Liverpudlian. I think it's got the best lyrics. I'm getting quite fed up with London at the minute, there's one song called 'Part Of The Queue' which is about living in London and how you always seem to be queuing up for things in that city and how it almost … when I moved to London about 12 years ago it blew me away but the novelty has worn off. It's become so overcrowded over the last three or four years that we're upping sticks and moving."
Noel said: "The most interesting thing will be when you hear Liam's songs. They are very, very good. A song called 'Guess God Thinks I'm Able'. The end 30 seconds will blow you away. It's great."
Oasis will head out on a UK stadium tour in the summer, having sold over 330,000 tickets for the dates. The shows are Glasgow Hampden Park (June 29), City Of Manchester Stadium (30, July 2-3), Southampton Rose Bowl Stadium (6) and Milton Keynes National Bowl (9-10).
Noel said that the group have "bagged some magnificent support bands" for the tour, though did not reveal the exact names.
